Precision Micro - Manufacturing Best Kept Secret

Best Practice Site Tour

For over 40 years Precision Micro has been a pioneer of "alternative" manufacturing technologies… technologies that meet the ever more demanding requirements of modern design. Companies in the region have been given the unique opportunity to visit this forward thinking manufacturer as part of the Inside Manufacturing Enterprise (IME) Best Practice visit programme.

12 delegates were offered the opportunity to visit the new purpose built manufacturing facility near Fort Dunlop, Birmingham, which has become the catalyst for a continuous improvement programme geared towards developing a leaner manufacturing operation.

Precision Micro are unique in their technology offering, being the only precision components manufacturer with such a comprehensive portfolio of manufacturing capabilities supported with in-depth technical expertise. They can offer a unique range of manufacturing technologies including Photo Etching, Wire EDM, Electroforming, Forming, Finishing and Micro Machining, used individually or in combination, to the ultimate benefit of customers.

In a very full agenda Precision Micro presented two topic area presentations as well as an in depth insight into the recent £7.4 million investment into their new 44,000sq.ft. plant at Vantage Way. This facility is thought to be the largest etching facility in Europe with each section designed by its own team.

Alongside learning more about Rapid Prototyping with Mass Flexibility and Continuous Improvement, delegates were given the opportunity to view the facility in close detail as part of the site tour. In particular, delegates were given the rare opportunity to view the class 10,000 clean room, which as a standard is cleaner than a operating theatre. This provided a fascinating insight into the techniques and processes used by this innovative company.

As an excellent demonstration of the speed and high quality of the photo etching process, delegates were asked to sign a photo tool upon on arrival. By the end of the 1st session each delegate was presented with their own personalised metal business card.

"The IME Best Practice program has given us the ideal platform to share ideas with other companies in the region and also ‘shout about’ the exciting things happening here at Precision Micro. We are all ready looking forward to our next visit later in the year."
