Nano-scale Precision Components Facility

PRECISION MICRO is now able to offer micro machining alongside its other manufacturing technologies. The term ‘micro machining' covers the production of minute components and features from a wide range of materials, generally in the size range of 200 microns to a few nanometres. PRECISION MICRO claims to cover this complete size requirement, with a range of advanced production technologies, in order to best meet customers' specific needs.

“The introduction of nano-scale production techniques to our technology portfolio is already helping us meet the ever increasing need for miniaturisation within our current customer base, but will also take the Company into some new and exciting market areas.” said Anthony Marrett, Managing Director of PRECISION MICRO. “We are also able to combine these technologies with our other manufacturing capabilities to integrate cost effective nano scale features within a wide range of larger more conventional components.”

The size of features that can be produced using these micro machining techniques borders on science fiction. Features that can be measured in nanometres can be manufactured with aspect ratios of up to 40:1… ratios that cannot be achieved by other methods.

“Typical applications for these technologies are in MEMS, microfluidics and sensors, as well as minute mechanical components for a range of industries including biomedical, automotive, electronics, aerospace and IT.” continued Marrett. “For microfluidics we are producing microchannels down to 7 nanometres in width that are enabling many avenues of clinical diagnosis and chemical synthesis.”

PRECISION MICRO produces discrete components such as micro gears, micro filters and other 3D structures in volume quantities with superior repeatability also supplies micro-prototypes using maskless microetch and deposition/ fabrication techniques to reduce lead times and shorten development cycles.
